Islamophobia

Whenever an appeaser is losing an argument about the War on Terror, he accuses his opponent of Islamophobia. This is done to end the debate before it is actually over so the appeaser doesn't completely lose. It is merely a name-calling tactic. It is an ironic one though, because the accuser may himself be more Islamophobic than he thinks.

Islamophobia means fear of Islam. The "phobia" is meant to imply it is an irrational fear. Let's see.

Islamic nations have been at war since the beginning of Islam in the 7th Century. When they aren't fighting infidels on the outside, they're fighting apostates on the inside. Muslims have killed more Muslims than all other religious groups combined. Nearly every war in the world today (there are about 80 actually, but that's a blog for another day) involves a Muslim faction on one side or both. Islamic nations are never at peace.

The vision of peace in the Koran is a world ruled by Sharia Law. This is the justice system that just sentenced a middle-aged mother of 5 to death by hanging for the crime of blaspheming the prophet Mohammad. I'm not sure what she said, but it probably wasn't as extreme as placing a crucifix in a jar of urine and calling it art. I think that dude got a big government grant. This poor woman is going to die. This is the peaceful world envisioned in the Koran.

Islam teaches the highest honor on earth is dying for jihad. Holy war. Great riches in heaven await anyone who dies for jihad. This is a bit different than turn the other cheek.

Islam should be feared, in the way people fear going to an ATM after dark. Is it irrational? I suspect most people have invested more time and money in protecting their homes from invasion than they have spent stopping the spread of Islam. However, both are legitimate fears.

A supporter for the aggressive execution of the War on Terror fears Islam in the same way Ronald Reagan feared the Soviet Union. A threat that must be defeated. Reagan said the strategy is simple. We win, they lose.

The appeaser, on the other hand, doesn't want to fight. Does he not see the danger? Or does he see it and is terrified by it? He may not be able to face his fear so he displaces it to something less frightening. He becomes angry with those who want to fight. They aren't as scary as the real cause of the fear. Conservatives aren't nearly as scary as radical Islamists. The appeaser becomes hysterical about the conservative (see: Bush Derangement Syndrome) and indifferent to the radical Islamist. It's almost...irrational.

Islamophobia is an interesting concept. However, I think its actual meaning has not yet become mainstream.
